GARY HAMILTON BEATON:
DOB - 20/8/1986 Lives - Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland Job outside of Speedway - Production Factory Worker Racing History - Rode for Armadale ( Edinburgh ) in the CL in 2003,2004 and 2005. For Buxton in 2006, before switching during the season to race for Redcar (formerly the Cleveland Bays ) in the CL Shield and then again with Cleveland Bays in 2007.
Gary is the nephew of former rider Bobby Beaton and the Grandson of 'Grandpa' and ex Glasgow Promoter, Jimmy Beaton. Always a laugh a minute and another much travelled rider of the Cubs along with young Blair. Gary is an asset of Glasgow. Gary also won the Amateur event held at Scunthorpe in January. Beating David Wallinger, Gary Irving and Stuart Parnaby to the chequered flag. This rider can be a match winner on his day but must start to sort out his inconsistency if he is to progress any further in the sport. Current 2007 avearge is 6 and he is well capable of improving that to at least 7 or even an 8. |

GREG BLAIR:
DOB - 14/10/1990 Lives - Oxnam, Jedburgh, Scotland Job outside of Speedway - Apprentice Joiner Racing History - Did Motocross when he was 13 and 14. Started Speedway at end of 2005 season doing 2nd half's. Rode in Conference League for Redcar (formerly Cleveland Bays) in 2006 and 2007. Raced 1 PL meeting for Redcar against Berwick and won his first ever PL race in heat 2.
Hoping for more PL meetings guest bookings in 2008. Unfortunately a badly broken elbow ended his 2007 season in August, when he had raised his average from 2pts up to 7pts a meeting and finished number one of the averages and collected the rider of the year award. He is now back on a bike getting fit and has attend Redcar and Scunthorpe practices over the winter months. Greg has been taught a lot by Kevin Little and Scott Robson.

MARTIN EMERSON:
DOB - 28/5/1084 Lives - Appleby, Cumbria Job outside of Speedway - Vehicle Technician Racing History - Did Motocross between the ages of 6 - 16. Took up Speedway in the early part of 2006 at winter training schools and made his racing debut with Redcar (formerly Cleveland Bays) in 2006 and also rode for them in 2007.
He also got to race at PL level, which was against Newcastle in October 2007 at home in the Tyne Tees Trophy 2nd leg. Scoring 1 point from 4 rides.
Also will be pushing for PL guest bookings in 2008. Martin is the Son of former Middlesbrough, Birminghham, Glasgow and Newcastle Heat leader, Alan Emerson. Martin has a good teacher! Reached a 5 pt average in 2007 and is capable of improving on that to around a 6 or 7 in 2008. |

SCOTT JAMES:
 |
DOB - 25/5/1984 Lives - Adelaide, Australia.... Workington, Cumbria, when in the UK. Job outside of Speedway - Engine Tuner Racing History - Did Motocross from a young age until 10. Started Speedway when he was 9. Came to the UK in 2002 and became a Workington asset, which he remains today. Scott raced in 2002 for Workington PL and for Mildenhall in the CL. he returned to Mildenhall and rode CL in 2003, but had to have a year out in 2004 because of a serious knee injury. He returned to these shores in 2005 and rode CL for Wimbledon, winning the CL Best Pairs with Mark Burrows. 2006 and 2007 saw him race for Buxton in the CL.
Scott is delighted to be racing for the Redcar Cubs in 2008 and brings with him bags of experience which will help the less experienced riders of the team and provide vital back up to Greg Blair and our Number 1, where we missed the back up of a 3rd heat leader in 2007. He is really up for this new challenge. Scott averaged 7 pts in 2007 and is looking to up that this season to around 8 or 9, which he is capapble of doing. A change to a track of his liking could well see this happen. Scott also services engines for riders when in this country. Has had many a guest booking in the PL and hopes to have more during 2008. |

GUY KENDREW:
DOB - 19/10/1987 Lives - Faceby, Nr Stokesley, North Yorkshire Job outside of Speedway - Joiner in the family business www.kendrewjoinery.co.uk Racing History - Trials rider from the age of 8 and still doing trials now. Started riding a Speedway bike in September 2006, impressing Andy Smith and Stoke Promoter Dave Tattum at Stoke training schools and rode for Stoke Spitfires in the CL in 2007. Guy went to Stoke because he didn't want the pressure of riding at his local track when first starting out.
Guy showed many a time last season with the Spitfires that he can do something in this sport and do not be surprised if he progresses in 2008 like Emerson and Blair have done in 2007. Guy is very much looking forward to racing for his local club in 2008. Many fans will have seen Guy practicing in 2nd half's at Redcar in 2007. Another one to watch! |

STEVE JONES:
27-year old from Wallsend, Tyne & Wear. Steve began his career with hometown Newcastle in 1999. For a brief moment he looked likely to make a breakthrough but a bad accident the same year knocked his confidence and he has never looked the same rider. DAVID WALLINGER
DOB - 16/4/1984 Lives - Ampleforth, North Yorkshire Job outside of Speedway - Bricklayer
Racing History - Started Grasstrack at the age of 4. Became British Schoolboy Champion at the age of 8. Has taken part in Grasstrack ever since, but never got to win any major finals, though has progressed in to different finals at different levels. Dave started Speedway in the early part of the 2006 season and competed in the then mini 2nd half meetings between the Bays and the Tees Valley Tigers. He then decided to take time out from Speedway and came back in to the sport midway through the 2007 season and was brought in to the Redcar ( bays ) side and has never looked back since. His highest score in 2007 was a fantastic 12 pts at home to Buxton, but unfortunatley he broke his wrist in 7 places in the September at thome to Sittingbourne and that was his 2007 season over.
He has been back on a bike since and has been at Redcar and Scunthorpe for practice sessions during the winter. Another rider that should pick up some PL guest bookings in 2008 and be knocking on that door for a reserve berth in the PL come the start of 2009. Dave is the Son of John Wallinger, who rode Speedway for Teesside in the 70's in the Scottish Junior League. Dave was also the Middlesbrough mascot at one time. Reached a 4 pt average in 2007 and would be looking to up that to around at least a 5 or a 6 in 2008.

JASON PIPE;
DOB - 25/4/1971 Lives - Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough Job outside of Speedway - Railway Signalman
History - Jason became a Speedway fan in 1975 and has lived in Middlesbrough all his life. He joined up in 2004 with Steve Harland, who himself brought the nomad Boro Bears back on track in 2003, to help with the sole aim of trying to bring Speedway back to Teesside as they raced 2nd half mini matches around the country as well as being based for 'Home' meetings at Hull in 2003 and 2004 and at Newcastle in 2005.
He then took over as Team Manager from Harry Atkinson in 2005 after sharing the duty with Harry in 2004. Jason said " By March 2005 the hard work had finally paid off, because this is when we where informed that Speedway was most likely to be returning to Teesside in 2006! So we carried on through 2005 and now we can feel proud to have played a part in helping Speedway return to Teesside".
Jason was asked to be Team Manager for the Cleveland Bays in the 2006 and carried on that role in 2007 and is once again taking up that role in 2008 with the now renamed Redcar Cubs. Jason was also landlord, spannerman and driver to Byron Bekker in 2005 and first half of the 2006 season and he was also landlord to Tomas Suchanek in 2006 and Matt Tresarrieu in 2007.

STEVE HARLAND;
DOB: 3/7/61 LIVES: Marske-by-the-Sea, Redcar, Cleveland JOB OUTSIDE SPEEDWAY: Neighbourhood Warden for Sedgefield Borough Council
As a lifelong supporter of Middlesbrough speedway, Steve has been one of the prime movers in helping establishing the sport back in the Teesside area. Together with Jason Pipe and Harry 'Henry' Atkinson the trio organised junior matches against other northern clubs but sometimes travelling as far south as Oxford & King's Lynn. The Middlesbrough Bears led something of a nomadic existence being based at Hull for two years from 2003 and then relocating to Newcastle's Brough Park for the 2005 season. Despite the distance involved Steve managed to attract sponsorship from Hartburn Garage of Stockton on Tees and Scott Bros. of Thornaby. In April 2006 former BSPA chairman and Wolverhampton promoter Chirs Van Straaten together with former Crewe and Reading rider Glyn Taylor and Gareth Rogers brought speedway back to Middlesbrough after a ten year gap. After discussions with Chris Van Straaten it was suggested to Steve to take the role of 'community development' which involved a wide ranging series of tasks including attracting sponsorship, writing for the club programme and local media as well as helping and promoting the club's junior set-up. With Glyn Taylor taking over the club in February, Steve was approached to continue his role of 'community development'. This has resulted in the Redcar Bears gaining their first ever team sponsor in Billingham-based TLS Vehicle Rentals who are part of the GE Corporation and acquiring Simpson Racing UK as the club's fuel & oil supplier. There will be spin-offs from the business arrangement with TLS which includes supplying Chris Kerr and Ty Proctor with transport in the 2008 season. All the programme advertising and heat sponsorship has been sold and meeting sponsorships are fast running out. Part of Steve's job is to host sponsors in the club's corporate hospitality facility the Hodgson Lounge on a Thursday evening. Several guests from last season have made a major investment, in particular Peter Roath of Laminate Flooring Direct in Middlesbrough, others will follow as the season progresses. Steve said of Glyn Taylor: "He might only be small in stature, but he has got a heart as big as the transporter bridge, and we all want Redcar Speeedway to be successful for many more years to come. We can't guarantee success on-track but we can help make it successful off-track. There is renewed enthusiasm amongst the club's spectator base that Glyn will succeed in improving the facilities - both on and off track in the coming months ahead.
